5 Bible Verses for When You Feel Worthless (2024)

We’ve all experienced those days and seasons where we’ve felt worthless.

Those times when nothing we do is good enough, we say all the wrong things, and feel an unshakeable emptiness inside.

We doubt those things we once believed about ourselves.

We are skeptical of the promises we were once so sure about.

Those truths we clung to now feel hollow—it’s hard to wrap our minds and hearts around them.

Moments of feeling worthless will always come, but we can combat those feelings with truth. When we hide God’s Word in our hearts, we will be ready for those moments of despair.

5 Bible Verses for When You Feel Worthless

When I am feeling worthless, here are five Bible verses that give me hope:

1.) Ephesians 2:8-10 -> You Are Chosen

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

Ephesians 2:8-10

I have been saved not because of anything I have done, but because of His grace and His love. He chose me. He still chooses me. He will choose me again and again.

2.) Isaiah 43:1-> You Are Valued

But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.

Isaiah 43:1

I like to replace Jacob and Israel with my own name and repeat this over myself:

He created me.
He formed me.
He has redeemed me.
He has called me by name.
I am His.

When I feel worthless, I remind myself that God doesn’t create or choose or call His own things that are worthless. God is of infinite value and so am I.

3.) Matthew 6:26-> You Are Loved

Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

Matthew 6:26

God cares for the birds and He cares for the lilies, but He loves us and values us even more. We are of immense worth to Him. Jesus didn’t come to the Earth and take the place for the birds, but of humans. He cherishes and values you and me.

4.) Genesis 1:27,31-> You Were Created In God’s Image

SoGod created man in his own image,
in the image ofGodhe created him;
male and female he created them.

And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

Genesis 1:27,31

God created the entire world in this splendid moment of strategic creativity. Of all the beautiful things that He created, He only made one thing that reflected His likeness: humans. And when He saw what He had made, He declared it to be very good.

5.) Jeremiah 1:5-> You Have Purpose

Before I formed you in thewombI knew you,
and before you werebornI consecrated you;
I appointed you a prophet to the nations.

Jeremiah 1:5

God knew Jeremiah and appointed him all those years ago, and He does the same thing for you and me. He doesn’t just know and call and consecrate certain people, He knows all of us. He has a future and hope, a destiny and calling for us. May we not lose sight of that truth!

A Word of Encouragement for When You Feel Worthless

If you are feeling worthless, that’s okay—I’m proud of you for acknowledging that. Bring those thoughts and emotions to God. Seek His presence, comfort, and perspective. Know that you are deeply loved by God. You are valuable and important to Him. He cherishes you.

I pray that you are able to receive that today.

Sarah often struggles to tell people who she is. It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life and focus on what she does rather than Who she belongs to and where her worth really comes from.
