Does UCLA care about GPA?
The minimum GPA to be considered for undergraduate, first-year admission to a UC is a 3.0 for California students and a 3.4 for out-of-state students. Any applications with GPAs below those will not be considered.
You must have a 3.0 GPA (3.4 for non-residents) or higher and no grades lower than a C in required high school courses. You can also substitute SAT subject tests for courses. If you don't meet the requirements, it is possible to gain admission with a high enough score on the ACT/SAT plus on two SAT subject tests.
Grade-Point Average Requirement
California residents are eligible for admission to the University of California with a 3.0 grade-point average; nonresidents are eligible with a 3.4 GPA.
Academic Preparation
The average GPA of admitted transfer students is above 3.5 and admitted students have completed most or all major preparatory courses. We give highest priority to applicants from California community colleges and other UC campuses. UCLA admits students for fall quarter only.
The average admitted GPA for the College of Letters & Science at UCLA is 4.2. For the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science, the average admitted GPA is over 4.3.
California applicants must earn at least a 3.0 GPA and nonresidents must earn a minimum 3.4 GPA in all A-G or college-preparatory courses to meet this requirement.
It is definitely possible to get accepted to UCLA even with a not-so-great GPA. The key is to focus on other factors that can strengthen your application. For example, you might have excelled in extracurricular activities which demonstrate leadership and commitment, or have exceptionally strong essays.
UCs also count classes only from the beginning of sophom*ore year, including the preceding summer, through the summer after junior year. The minimum GPA to be considered for undergraduate, first-year admission to a UC is a 3.0 for California students and a 3.4 for out-of-state students.
While UCLA Admissions shows no GPA requirement for incoming freshman applicants, it does list a requirement for transfer applicants; according to UCLA Admissions, applicants must have a GPA of 3.2 or higher earned in transferable courses.
Therefore, to answer the question “What GPA is required for UCLA?” Note that to be considered for admission to UCLA, you must be at the top of your class. You will require approximately straight As in all of your classes to meet the UCLA GPA requirement, as the average unweighted GPA of UCLA-approved students is 3.9.
Does UCLA look at freshman grades?
UCs do look at courses you take in freshman and senior years; the grades and rigor of your coursework are considered in context of your overall curriculum. But freshman and senior year grades are NOT included in the GPA calculation. UC-approved Honors, AP, IB and community college courses are weighted.
UCLA requires a minimum college GPA of 2.4 - this is on a 4.33 point scale. In addition, UCLA requires a minimum high school GPA of 3.7.
Earning a 3.7 GPA indicates consistent academic achievement and means you can apply to just about any school with a good chance of being accepted (except for the Ivy League schools, but that's because there are no circ*mstances of guaranteed admission at Ivies).
There are only three factors that UCLA ranks as being “very important” to their admissions process: rigor of secondary school record, GPA, and application essays. Factors rated as “important” are: talent/ability, character/personal qualities, extracurricular activities, volunteer experience, and work experience.
University of California: Los Angeles is extremely selective with an acceptance rate of 9%. Students that get into University of California: Los Angeles have an SAT score between 1290–1510* or an ACT score of 27–34*. Regular applications are due November 30.

Yale University does not have a strict minimum GPA requirement for undergraduate admissions. However, admitted students typically have very high GPAs, ranging from 3.8 to 4.0, with an average GPA of 3.9.
The UC application formula only “counts” courses from 10th and 11th grade. But the UC's will still see your grades from 9th grade.
At a minimum, you must earn a 3.0 GPA or better (3.4 for nonresidents) in all college preparatory courses. No grades can be lower than a C.
In order to receive a Passed, you must achieve a grade of C or better. Work done at the level of C- or below will be given a Not Passed and you will earn no units toward graduation.
Does UCLA only look at grades?

Final Admissions Verdict
If you don't pass their SAT and GPA requirements, they'll likely reject you without much consideration. To be safe, you should aim for the 75th percentile, with a 1510 SAT and a 3.93 GPA or higher to be above average.
According to the official website of UCLA Undergraduate Admission, a student must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (unweighted) to be considered for admission. However, this is just a minimum requirement, and students with higher GPAs are more likely to get accepted.
UCLA is more academic achievement oriented, meaning that having extraordinary extracurriculars and/or horrible hardships doesn't really trump bad grades and/or terrible test scores. Fantastic grades and stellar test scores are essential to be competitive and whatever else you can pile on is just gravy.
